MARS HILL BAIT AND AMMO – a short film, sci-fi comedy. When an arrogant insurance company CEO travels to rural Maine to investigate a hunter's outrageous claim that aliens destroyed his barn, he becomes entangled in the Native American Algonquin legend of the Wendigo and uncovers answers he could never imagine.
Written, Produced and Directed by Alfred Thomas Catalfo. The cast features comedian Juston McKinney (The Tonight Show, Comedy Central). The production team includes Director of Photography Ben Heald (Academy Award® Best Picture Winner CODA, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody).
Prior to production, the script for MARS HILL BAIT AND AMMO won the Screenplay Competition for Best Short Script at the 9th Annual Other Worlds Film Festival in Austin, Texas, where the announcement called it "A fun, trim little tale full of fun characters and lots of action! Keeps you guessing and doesn't let up on the suspense. Part sci-fi, part monster movie, featuring a creature rarely seen on screen"; the Silver Prize out of 660 submissions worldwide in the Short Film category of the 19th edition of the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards; Second Place in the Short Screenplay Competition at the Zed Film Festival in Los Angeles; and was selected as a Finalist in the HollyShorts Film Festival Screenplay Competition.
Writer/Producer/Director Alfred Thomas Catalfo was the winner of The Film Fund's 2023 narrative competition with his one-sentence premise for MARS HILL BAIT AND AMMO. The challenge was to write one sentence that describes the premise of the short film and explains how the funding would be used to complete it. The one-sentence premise won $3,000 toward post-production for MARS HILL BAIT AND AMMO.
